Here’s the number one question I hear—not only from new product creators, but even from seasoned business owners: “How do I find a good idea?”
What they really mean, of course, is “How do I find an idea that will sell?” No one wants to spend days or weeks or more planning, developing and launching a course only to hear crickets on the big day. You want to know you’ll have at least some measure of success. But don’t overthink it. The answer is simple. Just give your audience what they are asking for. What holds most coaches back from publishing?
It’s not a lack of writing talent. It’s definitely not a lack of knowledge. And for sure it’s not a lack of desire. If you asked most coaches why they have not finished their book, the answer is simple: time. Coaches are busy people. You have clients to serve, a business to run, a family to care for. Not only that, but you’re spending time creating new training courses, marketing on social media, managing your team…the list is nearly endless. When would you have time to write an entire book? It doesn't matter what type of business you have you already have everything you need to create passive income programs. If you have any type of online business it is likely that you engage in content marketing. You likely already create content for your blog and maybe you even have a short report as a freebie for email newsletter sign ups. Maybe you even have a regularly sent out email newsletter.
You probably even send educational information to your audience in the form of curated content that answers questions or by outright answering your audience's questions about your niche. You probably also have social media content for Facebook.com and perhaps even Youtube.com. All of this content that you create can be repurposed into passive income streams.
How many partially complete products, books, and group coaching programs do you have sitting around on your computer?
If you’re like most entrepreneurs, the answer is a resounding “far too many!” And frankly, the reason you have all of those incomplete books and programs isn’t because you don’t know your subject, or because you’re a poor writer, or even because you don’t have time. The real reason is because ... Coaching is an awesome career. You get to spend your time helping people achieve their goals in a very real way. It’s exhilarating, and oh-so-rewarding!
But at some point you begin to ask yourself “How can I reach even more people? How can I help more people reach their goals?” The answer? Create and sell self-study programs. Think about it. Initially, you might think the idea of taking freely available information (i.e. articles from a directory that is free to browse) and bundling them into a book isn't exactly the brightest product-creation strategy in the world; however, in order to think that, you'd have to ignore how well repackaged anthologies and classics volumes have sold over the course of decades.
Indeed, repackaging, aggregating, and/or putting your own “twist” on something that already exists does add value that customers are willing to pay for. People who buy your product may technically have access to all of those sources, but if they don't know they exist – or |
